Alpbach is a perfect example of a gorgeous Tyrolean village. In the summer it is a beautiful place for hiking and mountain biking and in winder, for skiing and snow boarding. Alpbach has great mountains, inns, food, wine and people; all the makings of a great ski resort. You can have just a good time on the slopes skiing as you can have off the slope in the evening. The nightlife is however perhaps more laid back than your Alpe d'huez or Tignes. Alpbach was voted the "White Oscar Award" from "The Good Skiing and Snowboarding Guide" in 2004. It has a small and relaxed feel with smaller hotels and lodges and smaller groups of friends on the slopes and in the bars. It is however a cheaper area to ski compared to other locations in Austria.
Historically the earliest written record of the name Alpbach is from 1150, but it was doubtless settled yeas before that, the region having already been inhabited for well over 1000 years. Geographically the Alpbach ski resorts height is 1000 m / 3281 ft and it has 46 km of ski piste. Alpbach has 19 ski lifts and is mainly aimed at intermediate skiers although does have facilities for beginners.
To get to Alpbach you can fly into either Innsbruck that is about 45 minutes to 1 hours drive away or Salzburg which is slightly further at a 2 hours drive.
